ADVANCED Bone & Soft Tissue Protocols for 2021 & Beyond - Prof. Howard Gluckman

ADVANCED Bone & Soft Tissue Protocols for 2021 & Beyond

Event Date: 10 June 2021 - 13 June 2021

Summit Breakdown:

The 2 Day Advanced Surgical & Reconstructive Summit will be headed by 4 TOP Leaders in the Field of Regeneration & Rehabilitation; Drs Salama, Gluckman, Holtzclaw & Kazemi. They each will be provided specific topics to address in a 1/2 day format followed by a challenging Q&A.

Bone, Growth Factors, Soft Tissue Reconstruction, Full Arch and Zygomatic-Pterygoid Implantation, as well as Complication Management, will be highlighted. Additionally, specifically selected #Xpert speakers will be directed to provide one-half-day programs that will be both Workshop and Hands-On in nature.

All the attendees will benefit not only from conventional didactic learning, but also specifically the functional “Hands-On” integration, with all the necessary instrumentation and specimens provided by DentalXP & our Sponsors.

Course Description:

Autogenous bone remains the gold standard in bone augmentation techniques. Autogenous bone provides the vital and viable cells that are osteogenic, osteoinductive as well as osteoconductive, which means that we are able to reconstruct larger defects both horizontally and vertically than any other guided bone regeneration technique. Veneer grafting is a technique pioneered by Dr Faoud Khoury which enables us to create a bone that completely mimics what was there before. Large thick bone blocks create dead bone that has no vitality and which over time may resorb while the veneer grafts provide a bone that has a distinct cortex and medulla with vital tissue that functions in the same way as normal bone and due to the vitality has a better chance of remaining stable over the long term.

The course will also cover soft tissue techniques like the rotated palatal vascularized flap, which is often used to augment the soft tissue at the time of bone grafting and reduce the risk of bone graft exposure. This technique comes in handy for a number of applications such as root submergence technique or getting primary closure of routine socket preservation techniques.

The placement of implants at the same time as bone block placement will allow faster treatment times, a reduced number of treatments and essentially happier patients who accept treatment more readily. The purpose of this hands-on training will be to give you the didactic information and teach you the skill to perform these techniques in your own practice.

Learning Objectives:

  • Bone physiology and bone healing
  • Site developments and harvesting with piezo bone cutting instruments
  • Veneer bone grafting techniques, including the harvesting and the bone veneer preparation
  • When and how an Implant can be placed with simultaneous bone block placement to reduce treatment time and number of treatments
  • Management of the buccal soft tissue
  • Rotated vascularized palatal flap to reduce risk of exposure
